Coast Labs Checkmark The Checkmark is a system which establishes a standard for computer security products, tests them against that standard and then produces a certificate which shows that they meet the standard. This is similar to governmental standards which seek to indicate to a buying public whether they can have faith in certain products. For example, electrical goods have to conform to certain safety standards and there are tests to ensure that they do so. With computer security products testing is not easy and requires both specialist knowledge and (often) specialist equipment. The Checkmark system is operated by West Coast Labs which has both. |
